    Check “Your” Mate is a workshop series on the topic of unhealthy relationships. Featuring 12 one hour educational sessions, this series will break down the patterns and behaviors that lead to being caught in unhealthy or abusive relationships. 

    The series will include:

    How to identify red flags and green flags, motivations of individuals seeking to obtain power and control, behaviors used to gain and maintain the power and control, how to set boundaries when in an unhealthy relationship, and the perils and difficulties when attempting to leave a relationship and the effects on the person who left and the children when parenting with an unhealthy partner.     1) I Spy: Seeing What Isn’t Being Said

    In this session we will look at the physiological response, mirroring behavior, love bombing, and boundary crossings in the beginning of a relationship.

    2) Red Light/Green Light: When to Move Forward and When to Walk Away   

    In this session we will separate the red flags, yellow flags, and green flags to look out for when pursuing a relationship.

    3) Merri-Go-Round: The Abuse Cycle/Power & Control Wheel   

    In this session we will look at trauma bonding, the cycle of abuse, the Power and Control Wheel, and we will go over the Equality Wheel, what we want in a healthy relationship.

    4) Monopoly: Financial Abuse   

    In this session we will look at how finances are used to gain and maintain control and power over a partner in a relationship.

    5) Risk: Coercive Control to Escalated Violence   

    In this session we will look at elements of coercive control and how this may escalate to violence in some situations. Also, the damage coercive control has on individuals even when there is an absence of physical or sexual violence.

    6) 20 Questions: “Why” Doesn’t Matter  

    In this session we will look at reasons individuals may have behaviors to obtain control and power and more importantly, that the underlying reasons, the “why” doesn’t matter when it comes to walking away and healing oneself after being in an unhealthy relationship.

    7) Simon Says: Setting Boundaries   

    In this session we will look at the importance of boundary setting, what boundaries are, and how to set healthy boundaries.

    8) Telephone: Be Aware of Information Seekers or Givers   

    In this session we will look at what methods an individual uses to gather information or maintain control over a partner or person once the relationship has ended.

    9) Dodge Ball: Navigating the Exit  

    In this session we will look at the barriers and obstacles to leaving an unhealthy relationship and how does one manage many components, especially when there are children involved.

    10) Capture the Flag: Parallel Parenting 

    In this session we will explore the concept of parallel parenting. We will also look at how children are effected by maintaining contact with the parent who has unhealthy behaviors and how to provide support for the children after leaving.

    11) Legos: Healing and Becoming the New You

    In this session we will look at options to start healing or to move forward in the healing process. Asking for help and seeking support are incredibly important when healing from relationship trauma. We will identify some barriers to reaching out for professional help. You are not alone.

    12) Operation: Supporting the Person You Care About  

    In this session we will explore ways of supporting a person who may be in an unhealthy relationship and how to maintain your own self care and deal with the helplessness of a situation you can’t change.
